The federal government has announced new funding opportunities for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). The goal is to meet the growing needs of older Australians and improve access to critical services.
What is the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)?
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is designed to provide entry-level aged care services to help older people live independently in their homes. It includes a range of services such as help around the house, transport, meal services, personal care, home modifications, social support, nursing and allied health services, and planned respite care.
Overview of CHSP Growth Funding 2024-25
With an investment of $100 million, the CHSP Growth Funding 2024-25 is introduced to increase the availability of services like domestic assistance, allied health, therapy, transport, and home maintenance. The Growth Funding grant, running from October 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, addresses local needs across different Aged Care Planning Regions. It also aims to attract new providers from aged care, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Aside from the Growth Funding grant, the CHSP First Nations Growth Funding 2024–25, announced in the May 2023 Federal Budget, invests $10 million to enhance culturally safe CHSP aged care services for First Nations people. The grant aims to attract new Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO) providers, delivering aged care, NDIS, and primary health and not delivering CHSP services.
